Getting to Dunk Island is easy. Dunk Island is accessible by Air, Coach or Car hire from Cairns Airport. Both regular flights and private charter flights operate between Cairns Airport and Dunk Island Airport. Another option is to rent a car and drive to Dunk Island. One-way or return car hire is available from Cairns Airport to Mission Beach. Or you can use a coach service which operates between Cairns Airport and Mission Beach (Port Douglas and Cairns City pick-ups on request). Two connecting ferry services operate between Mission Beach and Dunk Island- either Water Taxi or Calypso Sea Legs.

By Air : Regular flights depart major Australian capital cities for Dunk Island via Cairns with Qantas, Jetstar, and Virgin Blue. Hinterland Aviation operates the 45 minute connecting flight between Cairns and Dunk Island twice daily. Private charter flights to Dunk Island are also available upon request. An email or fax confirmation will be sent prior to your flight. Bring this document and photo id (such as a drivers' licence or passport) as this will be required at check-in. Connecting times If arriving from a domestic flight to Cairns, a minimum of one and a half hours is required between connecting flights. When arriving from an international flight, a minimum of two and a half hours is required - this includes domestic travel on an international flight number. These connection times are required in either direction. A courtesy coach transfer from the main terminal at Cairns Airport to the Hinterland Aviation terminal is provided by Sun Palm. Guests will meet the coach transfer at the Sun Palm check-in desk located in the Domestic Terminal. Note: Guests must advise their connecting flight details 7 days prior to departure. Failure to do so will result in transfers not being arranged. Guests staying overnight in Cairns, are required to make their own way to the Hinterland Aviation Terminal located at General Aviation, Hanger 7, Tom McDonald Drive, Cairns. Passengers are restricted to a total of 23kg including one small carry-on piece of hand luggage not exceeding 4kg. Soft suitcases are preferable. Luggage storage facilities are available at the Hinterland Terminal. By Self Drive from Cairns to Mission Beach: Sugarland Car Rentals offer one way or return car hire from Cairns to Mission Beach starting from $59 per day.
