‘Fairy Homes’ on the island resort

One of the many special things on Dunk Island Resort (especially for the budding botanists, gardeners or in general anyone who loves the special touches) are our unique and beautiful flower displays. Most guests who holiday on Dunk Island have a picture of the “lovers” pond, with the couple holding freshly picked flowers in their interlocked hands, or a pic of the other eye-catching displays throughout the resort (one guest’s child aptly referred to these displays as “fairy homes”).

Dunk Island has so many natural and pretty flowers to choose from, each day has something different in store.

The flower display tradition was started by a lady of the name Moncia McBride, when she began working at the resort in the 1980’s. She looked after these ‘fairy homes’ for many, many years and guests to this day still ask of her and whether she is still doing the wonderful arrangements.

Mon passed away a year ago this week, and we wanted to take the time to celebrate the tradition that she created in the flower displays as well as the lady herself. If you knew Mon, or remember her flower displays – raise your glasses this Friday to a much loved lady who was somewhat of an icon at this resort.

Cheers Mon!
