Snorkelling

As Dunk is a continental island, there are patches of fringing reef where snorkelling is possible. If you wish to snorkel from the beach, visit Muggy Muggy and Naturist Beaches. Please note that Naturist Beach is only accessible by boat and dinghies are available for hire at Watersports. Whilst snorkelling from the beach is an enjoyable experience, you won’t see the variety of fish or coral encountered on the outer reef. Weather conditions such as wind and rain can affect water visibility.

Snorkelling is one of the great pleasures of this part of the world. To ensure you make the most of it, Watersports will help you with all your equipment. During your stay you have access to the snorkelling equipment (mask, snorkel and fins). We have a wide range of sizes of equipment (including fins small enough for children and also large enough to fit a size 12 shoe). Ensure your snorkelling gear is fitted correctly, as a comfortable fit is important for an enjoyable experience. You might also want to borrow a buoyancy vest for additional support in the water. Snorkelling is generally considered to be a safe activity, however, it can be physically strenuous and may aggravate certain medical conditions (e.g. asthma, heart and lung conditions).

When snorkeling, always remember to watch your buoyancy so that you don’t drag your fins or stand on the coral. Please help to protect the Great Barrier Reef.
